Our Mission

Millstone’s mission is to empower youth as they gain social skills, environmental knowledge, and community awareness through hands-on learning. Millstone 4-H Camp promotes leadership, social and emotional growth, and an environment that positively influences lives.

Our Vision

The vision of the North Carolina 4-H Camping Program is to inspire and create productive citizens through lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Millstone 4-H Camp serves 750+ youth ages 5-17 each season through our summer camp programs. All camps are week-long, residential experiences except Cloverbud Camp, which hosts youth ages 5-8 for only three days.

Our programming fosters creativity, develops interest in the natural world, and encourages connection within a community. With the supervision of our highly trained summer camp staff, youth learn to challenge themselves by trying new activities like high ropes, boating, archery, and more in a safe and supportive environment.

After a week at Millstone, your child will leave with a sense of accomplishment, belonging, and fun memories to share the whole ride home!

During the rest of the year at Millstone …

Rent our beautiful facilities for special events like weddings, conference groups, retreats, and more! With several options for conference spaces, dining areas, and lodging, you have everything you need, right here on site. In addition to a wonderful stay in our facilities, reserve play time on our lake, high ropes course, shooting sports ranges, and more! Need a team-building activity built into your retreat? We’ve got you covered!

Millstone's Story

Millstone 4-H Camp is nestled in the Sandhills Game Lands, surrounded by stunning Longleaf Pine forests. Spanning 250 acres, our camp is a treasure trove of diverse ecosystems and top-tier recreational facilities. Rooted in rich 4-H history, our camp blends tradition with modern amenities.

Construction of Millstone 4-H Camp began in 1938 with support from L.R. Harrell, the State 4-H Leader, and the Federal Works Progress Administration. By 1939, we welcomed our first group of 4-H youth. The original site held an 18-acre lake, cabins, dining hall, and more.

Over the years, we've expanded our offerings. In 1952, we added a Recreational Hall and two cabins, followed by a farm shop in 1955 and a pool in 1979. Thanks to the Cole Foundation in 2005, we introduced a thrilling High Ropes Course. In 2009, with support from the North Carolina General Assembly, we upgraded all cabins with heating/cooling systems and bathrooms. By 2010, our kitchen had a complete makeover.

In 2016, the SECU 4-H Learning Center was completed, providing state-of-the-art meeting space thanks to private donations. And in 2022, North Carolina Farm Credit's generous donation enabled the renovation of our dining hall, ensuring a comfortable and inviting space for all.
